Scholarships

Almost since its inception more than 50 years ago The OU Club of Dallas has offered one or more accademic scholarships to high school seniors from the greater Dallas/North Texas area who plan to attend OU the next fall.

For most of this time the awards have been known as the OU Club of Dallas Scholarship. In 1998 after he retired from our board all awards were renamed the Jack Williams Scholarship to honor Jack for his years of dedicated service to our club and to OU; Jack is a former President of the club, and for 17 years ran the OU/TX Weekend mostly single-handed. Throughout all of this time he also served on the Scholarship Committee, and frequently introduced the winners at club meetings.

However, in order to honor other long time supporters who have also contributed time to academic recruiting to OU, in 2001 the board decided to rename the scholarships the Jack Williams, Jack McKinney and Paul and Judy Kaye Massad Scholarships. In 2005 the board made two revisions: 1) to add another named scholarship to honor Michael Tuttle for his 18 years of service as Scholarship Chairman, and 2) all named awards will now go to one person only based on committee ranking; all other awards are again named the OU Club of Dallas Scholarship.

All awards, whether named or not provide the same financial assistance. These awards are made possible through individual member's direct contributions, and monies from The Annual OU/TX Weekend. These awards are for the freshman year only, and are in the form of a $500.00 credit to the winner's Bursar's account both semesters, and $500.00 in university-matching grants. Our contribution to the Bursar's account can be spent for any university expense at the winner's discression; the university grant can ONLY be applied to the out of state tuition expenses. Applicants may receive awards from OU and organizations like ours. For questions/clarification about our award, contact our Scholarship Chairman.
